FG Launches TRCN Digital Portal to Transform Teaching Profession
The federal government has launched a new digital portal developed by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), designed to modernize the teaching profession through technology and innovation.
Unveiling the platform at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Abuja on Monday, Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, described the initiative as a “defining moment” for Nigeria’s education sector.
“This is not just another launch,” she said. “It marks a turning point in repositioning the Nigerian teaching profession to meet the demands of the 21st century.”
According to her, the portal is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Ministry’s drive for human capital development and digitization.
“Digitalization is no longer optional—it is the language of global competitiveness, innovation, and efficiency,” she added. “We cannot build the Nigeria of our dreams with analogue systems.”
The new platform will streamline teacher registration and licensing nationwide, provide a credible database of certified professionals, and grant real-time access to professional development opportunities.
“We are saying to every teacher in Nigeria: We see you, we value you, and we are committed to supporting you,” Prof. Ahmad said.
Also speaking at the event, Ian Attfield, Senior Education Advisor at the British High Commission, praised TRCN’s vision and highlighted the importance of integrating Nigeria’s diverse teaching workforce—ranging from volunteers and faith-based educators to teachers in low-cost private schools.
Attfield noted that the UK government, through the FCDO programme, supported the development of the portal and remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s education data systems.
“It’s a Herculean task to bring everything together cohesively,” he said. “But the UK stands firmly behind Nigeria in this effort.”
Prof. Ahmad commended TRCN’s Registrar, Dr. Ronke, and her team for their resilience and dedication, describing the portal as both a “statement of trust” and a pledge to restore dignity to the teaching profession. She reaffirmed the Ministry’s full support for TRCN’s digital transformation agenda.
